The Future is Green
The Future is Green project will deliver a range of activities to upskill the labour force in Green Skills to support the future green economy and provide opportunities for individuals to access and progress within high quality, well-paid jobs. Employer-led, responsive training and provision will be delivered to support the development of a skilled and adaptable workforce needed for green and inclusive growth. Opportunities for all communities, in particular those in geographically hard to reach areas, will be promoted to enable increased access to sustainable high value green skills careers.
The project is led by The Cornwall College Group in collaboration with 8 highly experienced delivery partners across further and higher education institutions and training providers to include; Truro & Penwith College, Cornwall Marine Network, University of Exeter, University of Plymouth, Falmouth University, Focus Training (SW) Ltd, Urban Biodiversity CIC and Celtic Sea Power.
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The Future is Green project will receive £2m of SPF with an additional £200k of match funding, which will be delivered between January 2024 to March 2025 and will engage 705 individuals in green skills training and qualifications.
The partners will deliver the following activities to meet SPF, local and national priorities, including Cornwall’s Green Economy and Skills Deep Dive Research findings:
- Proactively promote and communicate the diverse range of green occupations.
- Work in partnership with the Growth and People Hub to proactively engage individuals in green skills training and qualifications.
- Utilise LMI and collaborate with local businesses to develop employer-led training programmes which meet new and emerging green skills needs, aligned to green increased demand occupations and sectors.
- Provide progression and green skills progression career pathways from entry through to higher level.
- Provide appropriate learner pathways and support mechanisms for target audience, i.e. unemployed entering into green skills careers, adults looking to retrain in a new green career or skilled individuals upskilling to develop and progress.
- Provide high quality IAG and careers guidance.
- Engage businesses and individuals in high carbon sectors in training to encourage faster green transition and investment.
- Identify and overcome barriers to participating in green skills training including referral to the People Hub to access specialist support.
- Increasing accessibility to green skills training through modes of delivery and training subsidies.
